The Orphans court record in 1801 lists 5 minors (born after 1780); Samuel, Jesse, Bartus, Martha and Mary. The 1790 census indicates two males in the family over 16 years ie born before 1774 and 1 under 16 ie born after 1774 along with one female. One of the older males must be Jesse and the female must be his wife Mary. The second older male could be a child, brother or hired person. The male born after 1774 is assumed to be the first listed minor child, Samuel. The remanding minors are all assumed born after the 1790 census was taken. The third child, Bartus, is assumed to be Bartus the tailor listed in Baltimore in 1850 and that census shows him to be born 1791. Birth order is assumed to be the order as the children were listed in the Orphan Court records.

Chester Meeting had a complaint against Jesse and Gideon Comegys for neglecting attendance of meetings and bearing arms to learn the art of War.
