Will Transcript

Whereas I Jeremiah Jack of Berkeley County Colony of Virginia being of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God for his mercies therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almight God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a Christian and decent manner nothing doubting but at the general resurecton [sic] I shall receive the same again and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give devine [sic] dispose in the same following manner and form (Viz):
I give and bequeath to Jeremiah Jack son of Ann McLoughlin to him and his male heirs heirs (as written) forever one hundred and fifty acres of land where Joseph Lacklin now lives likewise to Jeremiah Jack son of John Jack the sum of five shillings sterling.
Likewise I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Pearce and the heirs of her body by Elisha Pearce one hundred pounds likewise unto Anne Jack daughter of Sarah Pearce the sum of fifty pounds likewise I give and bequeath unto Eleanor Shelby daughter of Moses Shelby the sum of ten pounds Virginia currency likewise unto James Jack son of Sarah Vanmeter a young black horse colt four sheep and a cow and the rest of my worldly estate unto my son James Jack to him and his male heirs forever and I do likewise make constitute and ordain him the said James Jack my sole executor of this my last will and testament.

Signed sealed and delivered by the said Jeremiah Jack as his last will and testament in the presence of us:
Archibald Shearer, Samuel John, William John.
At a court held for Berkeley County the 16th day of August 1785 this last will and testament of Jeremiah Jack deceased was presented in Court by James Jack the executor therein mentioned and the same being proved by the oaths of Archibald Shearer Samuel John and William John. Ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said executor who entered into bond his security in the penalty of conditioned for his true and faithful administration of the said estate certificate is granted him for attaining a probate on due form of law.
