Facts and Events
Name Jeptha Ginn
Gender Male
Birth[2] Abt 1770
Marriage to Penelope Magee
Death[1] Bef 7 Aug 1820 Pike County, Mississippi

Jeptha Ginn first "appears" on the 1800 Federal Census of Lancaster District, South Carolina, head of household, age 26-44. The composition of his household indicates that, in addition to his young family, some other near family members were probably living with him. Jeptha "Gynn" bought 40 acres on the SW side of Great Lynches Creek in Lancaster District on 8 Dec 1802 from William Myers, with Myer (x) Magee as a witness. This "Myer" was his brother-in-law, Nehemiah Magee. He sold this same piece of land on 5 Dec 1803, presumably in anticipation of a westwardly move with his Magee in-laws (Holcomb, "Lancaster Co SC Deed Abstracts 1787-1811," pp 135, 147, with reference to Deed Book F, pp 142, 194).

The 1810 Territorial Census for Amite County, Mississippi shows Jeptha Ginn as head of household with 2 males +21, 1 male -21, 1 female +21, and 5 females -21. The 1816 Territorial Census of Pike County, Mississippi shows his household with 3 males -21, 1 male +21, 2 females +21 and 8 females -21.

Jeptha Ginn settled on Magee's Creek in Pike County (presently southern Walthall County), where he was assessed in the 1818 and 1819 tax returns with 160 acres on said creek. His name last appears on the 1820 return, with no acreage shown (see "Mississippi, State Archives, Various Records, 1820-1951" database at familysearch.org for the digitized tax returns for Pike County). He died before the taking of the 1820 census, at which time his widow Penelope was shown as head of household. Since the official enumeration date for the 1820 census was 7 Aug 1820, I show him as having died before this date.
