Research notes

  • Her parents are given as James Watson and Mary Brown on her death cert. They are found in the 1855 NYC census and 1860 Ohio census, yet daughter Jennie is not with them in either record. Where was she during those years when she would likely have been a minor?
  • Her 1868 marriage to Rev. Faris gave her name as "Jennie Smith", indicating that she was previously married. Who was her Smith husband? Did he die in the Civil War?
  • Her birth year in the records went from 1841 (1880 census) to 1859 (death cert), so it is likely that she was older than she said she was in later years. Had she been born in 1859, she would have only been 9 yrs old at the time of her 1868 marriage.
