Facts and Events
Janette McRoberts - born Oct. 3, 1801 at Prito, Nova Scotia married when very young a man by the name of eye, had two children and divorced him. Her father was lost at sea before she was born, but her mother lived to be 100 years old and died when her great great grandchild’s baby was six months old making six living generations. Janette McRoberts Eye had two children: Elizabeth born Feb. 17th 1818 and a son lost at sea. Her daughter Elizabeth had a son Charles who was in the battle of the Merrimac and was so badly wounded that he was thought to be dead. After the wounded had been cared for, and the dead were being cared for , they found him still alive. Nurses were scarce, so his mother Elizabeth Eye Dunlap started for Washington, D.C. almost penniless. Somehow or other by many times telling her story she reached Washington, to find that she could not enter the hospital without a permit from President Lincoln. The door keeper upon hearing her story soon obtained for her an audience with Lincoln and her permit was granted. Her son recovered but always carried a big scar on his side. Coming home from Washington, the story got around and at several stops, they were warmly welcomed and collections taken at several places. A wheel chair being among the gifts. Janette McRoberts had one own brother who was lost at sea, her mother married again and had children by the name of Huntley. References
