JEMIMA was the second white child born in Lagro Township. The book "FORTY NORTH" had an interesting page (812) with a copy of her obituary. As a girl, the local Indians would show up, and lay around in the house, sleeping in front of the fireplace, etc. Her mother would have to step over them while attending to her housework and cooking.

Jemima also had the story of one Indian woman who wanted to swap babies when Jemima was a baby.

It was mentioned in the book that wolves were once so numerous that a premium was paid for each scalp. The obituary also mentioned Jemima's stories of the coming of the "great iron monster" (the railroad).
