  4. The death record names the father as Eli Smith and birthplace as South Hadley. According to Boltwood, Lucius M. Genealogies of Hadley Families, p. 137, Eli Smith m. 1791 Martha Nash, two years after the birth of Jehiel according to Jehiel's age at death. Further Eli had two daughters soon after his marriage. It is unlikely Eli had an earlier wife based on his own birth in 1769 (no marriage expected before 1790), and unless Jehiel's age at death is wildly wrong, he does not appear to fit into this family. No other Eli Smith has been located and Boltwood does not list any Jehiel Smith.
