Bio: Jean Schilstra was in the Baraboo High School Class of 1940.
Jean was on track to graduate with her class in the spring of 1940 but a tragic toboggan accident ended her life at the conclusion of the first semester. The Class of 1940 had lost one of it's most beloved members. When Valedictorian honors were to be handed out for the class of 1940, it was found that William Gasser and Jean actually tied for honors, point by point, with an average of 94.167. Though this had never happened before in the history of BHS, Superintendent Gordon Wilson made the announcement that William Gasser and Jean Schilstra would be sharing valedictory honors.
