Post Reply | Mark Unread Report Abuse Print Message I'm also researching Bazin in Guernesy, my ancestor was Jean/John Bazin, b. 29 Mar 1763, Guernesy, emmigrated to New England ca 1772. I haven't found anything on my ancestor, but have information on your line (Bazin-Taudevan). Here's most of what I have (primary sources: Priaulx library records; corresp. with M. Martin (1990), and Crabb's _Life of Cap't John Bazin' cited below.

First Generation

1. Jean (John) BAZIN. Born ca 1743. Died ca 1805. Lived Guernesy.

Jean (John) married Rachel TAUDEVAN. Born in Brittany, Died in 1809.

Described as "master of a small trading vessel", "left behind him respectable property in houses and cash". Crabb's Life of Captain John Bazin (biography of son, #7) provides a list of boats owned by Jean Bazin since late 1700s.

They had the following children: Second Generation

2. Rachel BAZIN. Born on 16 Dec 1768 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey.

3. Suzanne BAZIN. Born on 7 Jan 1771 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey.

4. Jean BAZIN. Born on 25 Aug 1772 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey. (apparently died young, see #7 with same name)

5. Marie BAZIN. Born on 11 Sep 1773 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey. Marie died ca 1815; she was 41.

6. James BAZIN. Born on 15 Sep 1778 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey.

7. Captain Jean (John) BAZIN. Born on 7 Mar 1780 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey. Jean (John) died in East Cowes, Isle of Wight, on 12 Feb 1836; he was 55. Buried in Southampton, England. Occupation: Mariner, Shop-owner (Guernesy & Jersey). Religion: converted to Wesleyan Methodist (Guernsey).

See Crabb, James. The Life of Captain John Bazin. Published by John Mason, London, 1837. Another source (not yet examined) is his will, a copy of which is preserved at http://www.jerseyheritagetrust.org/ (identified by name of boat).

In 1802 when Jean (John) was 21, he first married Mary HALL. Born in 1785. Mary died on 18 May 1813.

They had at least four children, one born before 1805, among these, a daughter Mary who married around 1822 "G.B.", who sailed with John Bazin, possibly a Captain Babot. One of Capt. Bazin's sons died between 1836-1837.

In 1814 Capt. John re-married. His second wife died ca 1836.

8. Charles BAZIN. Born on 29 Oct 1782 in St. Peter Port, Guernsey. Charles died ca 1815; he was 32.

Charles married Mary. Mary died ca 1815.

They had one child, apparently taken in by Capt. John at death of parents.

They had (at least) one child: 19 i. Stephen (-?1905)
