    Stormont, Jane Cree.--Born, Clinton, Park Co., Ind., Sept. 19, 1823; daughter of Thomas and margaret (Cree) Smith; married Dr. D. W. Stormont, Grandview, Ill., 1848; to Kansas, 1862; since death of husband, has made many gifts to colleges, libraries, etc.; $5,000 medical library to the State, and $5,000 as a fund to keep it up; built Stormont Hosp.; donated $5,000 to the Free Public Library, Aug., 1889; has given to Washburn Coll., $500; to Ingleside, $1,600; to Female Coll., Terre Haute, Ind., $500; has done much other philanthropical work. Res.: Ingleside.

    Clinton is on the border between Vermillion and Parke counties, Indiana.
