Daughter of John Mason Jr. and Leah McKeachy (McKeage?) of Virginia. (is Leah McKeachy Janet's mother or grandmother?) ------ There's a possibility that she descends from the Francis Mason who immigrated to Jamestown Virginia in 1613, but this has not been researched. Francis later settled across the water in present Surry County Virginia . ----- (Should check 'adventurers of purse and person, Virginia 1607 - 1624/5' for early colonial Jamestown genealogy). Her father John Mason Jr. died in summer 1761 on his plantation on Back Creek in what is now Roanoke County VA, that area being now the southern suburbs of Roanoke City called Poage Mills,' area. Interestingly the Poage Family married into the Crawford family and are cited in Augusta county records and throughout the valley. Roanoke County was made from Botetourt county in 1838; And Botetourt made from Augusta County in 1769. So technically he died in that part of Augusta County which is now Roanoke County. Now the Poage Mills area of Roanoke County. Online source says her grandfather was also John Mason, born c1699, and that her great grandfather was also a John Mason, born c1670. (According to Paul Ostendorf's Crawford history manuscript Janet Mason Crawford's father: John Mason was a Junior.) Janet's Daughter, Sarah Crawford was born 1784 in Botetourt County, VA, married George Jackson December 20, 1802 in Breckenridge county, KY.
