No direct sightings of Jane Holland have been found. She is mentioned in the will of her sister, Mary Holland, who said she had been born at Cropthorne in Worcestershire, and who was believed to have been born around 1664. The surviving Cropthorne parish registers from that period are relatively patchy between the 1640s and 1670s, presumably due to the upheaval of the Civil Wars and the Commonwealth which followed. Jane married a man called Mr Loxley and had at least two sons, called Francis and William, both of whom are named in Jane’s sister Mary’s will, which was written in 1735. Jane is named as their mother, but the will does not make explicit whether Jane was still alive at that time. One possibility is that Jane was the “Widow Loxley” buried at Cropthorne on 1st April 1720. References
