Obituary

Morris Daily Herald March 4, 1891

Death of Mrs. Wm. H. Curtis.

Jane Ann, wife of Wm. H. Curtis, died at her home in this city last evening, after a short illness. Deceased was born in Green county New York on the 15th of March 1817. In early womanhood she was married to Abraham Hollenbeck, and to them five children were born, four of whom are now living, one having died about a year ago. In 1848 Mr. and Mrs. Hollenbeck came west and settled on a farm in the township of Vienna. Here her husband died. On the 12th of June, 1861, she was married to Wm. H. Curtis, and for a number of years thereafter they resided on the farm in Vienna, taking up their residence in this city some twelve years ago, where they continued to reside up to the time of her death. She was rather retiring in disposition and since coming to town has not gone from home a great deal and therefore had not formed extensive acquaintances. She was a very pleasant lady, and loved by all acquaintances. The remains will be conveyed to the residence of her son Abner Hollenbeck - her old home for so many years - in the town of Vienna, on Friday, and the funeral will take place from there on Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock, Rev. Lang, of Joliet officiating. Internment will be made at the ward cemetery.[6]

Research Notes

Justin Renne was the person who gave the sworn statement 3 Nov 1854 of Abram Hollenbeck's death about 10 Oct 1854 for Abram's probate papers.[4]

"He (Justin Renne) was married in Green county, New York, October 3, 1837, to Miss Maria Hinchman, who was born at Rhinebeck, Dutchess county, New York, August 23, 1809, a daughter of Obadiah Hinchman. Her father was of English descent, was born in Long Island, was a mechanic by trade and died in the Empire state. His children were William, Maria, Jane, John, Alfred, Sarah and Elizabeth." [5]
