- ↑ As usual, James' age varies somewhat over the various census records. His birth calculates to 1840 in 1850 and 1892 (state) census cited on his father's page, also in 1860 and 1870. In 1870 and 1875 (state) it calculates to 1839, to 1841 in 1880, and in 1900, his birth is listed as Dec 1837. (His wife Sophia , but not he, is found in 1910.) Considering all of these, his birth is probably December 1839, but no record has been found.
