The parish of Lamberhurst straddled Kent and Sussex at this time - it was later all transferred to Kent. The baptism record indicates that James was born in the part of Lamberhurst then in Sussex. The town of Tunbridge Wells where James was baptised straddled the parishes of Tonbridge and Speldhurst at the time, with the Countess of Huntingdon's Connexion Chapel on Mount Ephraim being in the part of the town that was in Tonbridge parish.
