    Captain James Tatum was a Revolutionary War Soldier,born circa 1755 and believed to be the son of George Tatum of Brunswick County,Virginia.James moved to Rowan Co.N.C in the late 1700's and in 1802 he moved to Ashe Co.N.C.James and Amey moved into a cabin built circa 1775.this cabin was occupied by five
    generations of the Tatum family.The cabin was
    donated by Thomas Tatum,the G-G grandson of Captain Tatum,to the Southern Appalachian Historical Association,and moved on the grounds of HORN IN THE WEST in Boone, N.C.
    **The Cabin was originally located near Todd,At what was known as the Elk Crossroads.

    James and his wife Amey are believed to be buried on land
    that was once owned by Captain Tatum, near Todd.
