    "… Capt. James Steele, son of Lt. Samuel Steele and Mary Boosey, … born 31 August 1662 in Farmington, Connecticut (Barbour citing LR 1:2) and baptized there on 27 August 1664 (Barbour citing LR 2:327); and died 15 May 1713 in Wethersfield, Connecticut (Barbour citing VR 1:26) in the 50th year of his age according to his gravestone in the Village Cemetery (Hale 23 which gives 15 March instead of May, an error in reading the headstone). … James Steele was appointed Ensign of the trainband on the south side of the riverett in Hartford on 17 May 1708 (Col. Recs. 5:45); Lieutenant of the company on 14 October 1708 (Col. Recs. 5:68); and Captain in May 1710 (Col. Recs. 5:150). He also served as deputy to the General Court from Wethersfield in October 1710 and in May and June 1711 (Col. Recs. 5:169, 205, 245). The inventory of his estate was taken on 23 July 1713 and came to £812:11:06 (Manwaring 2:306-307)."

    Page 82—9 September, 1718: Anna Steele and Samuel Steele, of Wethersfield, exhibited now in this Court an account of their Adms. on the estate of Capt. James Steele, by which accot. the inventory amounts to £824-02-03, the real part whereof is £449-10-00; and that out of the moveable part there has been paid in debts and charges, £200-13-03; there remains of the moveable estate £173-19-00, to which add the real part and the sum to be distributed and divided is £623-09-00. Account allowed and order distribution: To Anna Steele, widow relict (dower) and £57-19-00, to be her own forever; to Samuel Steele, eldest son, £161-11-03; to Joseph Steele, David Steele, Prudence Steele, Hannah Steele and Anne Steele, sons and daughters of the deceased, to each and every one of them, £80-15-07 1-2. And appoint George Stilman, Jonathan Belding and Michael Griswold distributors.
