James Sams Jr, was willed the upper half of the Sams Plantation when he was eight years old, however his mother as executor controlled the property until James was 21 year old in 1739. An affirmation of the property rights to William and James was made by Patent number 18 in June 1739. When James died, his will was probated with his wife Ann as the executor December 5th 1768. The estate was inventoried by Vincent Vass and by Ann, James wife and probate completed in 1774.
