On Aug. 30, 2000, I received the following information from Jane Wade. Jane is a Rutledge family historian. I sent her a small amount on the Rutledge family that I had accumulated and she sent me the following.
The parents of James W. Rutledge were; Robert and Francis (Calhoun) Rutledge. Francis J. married Thomas McCall, after the death of Robert Rutledge. Francis and Thomas McCall were married in Bedford Co., TN in 1824. This marriage was also the second for Thomas McCall. The McCall family was living in Bedford Co., TN in 1830, in Hardeman Co., TN in 1840 and in Tippah Co., MS in 1850.
In 1850 James W. Rutledge was found living in the household of Robert A. and Sarah Dawson. Sarah (McCall) Dawson was the daughter of Thomas McCall and his first wife! This means Sarah Dawson was the step sister of James W. Rutledge.
Robert A. and Sarah (McCall) Dawson are the grand parents of Jane Wade.
In 1860 James W. Rutledge lived in Tippah Co., with his mother, Frances McCall. (We now see where the Francis name came from. RLH-2000) Was James W. Rutledge the same as Sgt. Maj. Walter Rutledge, who was in the 2nd Mississippi Infantry Regiment? No, this was probably Walter G. Rutledge, who was in Co. B. I will list some of the most important members of the 2nd Mississippi later in this report.
The following is the 1870 Census of Tippah County, MS.
Rutledge, James - age 64 - head of household, born about 1806.
Rutledge, Anne - wife- this is Francis Ann (Rowland) Craig, I.E. Anne / Annie.
Children were;
Craig, Robert, age 2
Craig, Jim, age 10- born about 1860. In the 1910 Census James Craig, father of Troy was age 47, thus born about 1873. Thus this is not the father of Troy R. Craig.
McCall, George, age 42- the son of Thomas and Frances, half brother to James W. Rutledge.
McCall, Mat, age 16- this is probably Matt McCall who married Mary Isabell Rowland Holley, b. about 1854.
McCall, M., (Female), age 14
McCall, Ann, age 12
McCall, A., (male) age 6
