Bot a ho. at Long Reach from James Johnson, 1651. Presented for neglecting meeting in 1656 and for entertaining Quakers in 1659. In 1661 he was in London, where he received cloth to be deliv. to Mr. Cogswell of Ips. and Mr. Raynes of York. In 1663-4 he and sons Ichabod and Joseph gave a bond to Mr. John Cutt, and in 1676-7 he mtg. his ho. and land to Cutt, excepting 8 a. already deeded to s. Morse and 18 a. to s. Samuel. … He d. bef. 13 Aug. 1687. Will, 16 Dec. 1685-25 July 1691, names w. Hannah, eldest s. Ichabod, sons Benjamin, Joseph, 'all my ch., sons and daus., every one of them,' Henry Langstaff, Obadiah Morse and Philip Chesley overseers. A lot gr. to him was laid out to Amos Murrell (q.v.) in 1722. Ch: Ichabod. Rebecca, m. Isaac Stokes and left him bef. 1663-4 when she promised to go back. Joseph, carpenter, charged with stealing a canoe in 1672, his bros. Ichabod and Samuel on his bond. No further rec. Samuel. Benjamin,± 23 in 1685, at Portsm. with Ichabod, who was responsible for his lodging, in 1678; gave a note in 1682; appren. to br. Samuel to learn trade of wheelwright 13 Aug. 1687, his fa. then dead. Sold 35 a. to John Pickering jr., 1689, with consent of bros. Ichabod and Samuel, and was prob. dead in 1690 when wit. prov. the deed. His sis.-in-law Rebecca Rollins(5) obtained his est. by paying his debts and deeded it to her sons in 1734. … A dau., m. Obadiah Morse(9). Sarah, m. Philip Chesley(3). Poss. Thomas (6), and John. Abigail (Rollins 5) Richards stated in a depos. in 1749 that she had liv. bef. her marriage with -John-, s. of James Rollins, poss. a scrivener's error. One John m. in Newbury 9 Oct. 1702 Mary Thomas of Oyster Riv., bot land there of Roger Rose and leased it back to him in 1705, wit. Obadiah Morse (strong ev. of some relationship to this fam., altho a cursory glance at the Newbury rec. would seem to place him as John, s. of Nicholas R., b. 1680).
