James E Roepke, 73, of Sandusky CO Rd 62, Gibsonburg, died early Monday afternoon at home. He had been ill for about five months.

He was born in Elmore to Edward and Luella (Krantz) Roepke. He attended Ha rris-Elmore Schools and was a member of the Army National Guard.

Mr. Roepke worked as a millwright out of Local 1393, Toledo.

He was an avid sprint car driver and owner for more than 35 years. He w as the Fremont Speedway champion in 1956.

On Nov. 19, 1949, he married Christina A Zorn at Zion Lutheran Church in G ibsonburg and she survives. Also surviving are daughters Susan (Duane) Lo hr and Patty (Donald) Netcher, both of Elmore, Cynthia Cousino of Gibsonbu rg and Jayne Roepke of Falls Church, Va.; son Scott Roepke of Gibsonbur g; sisters Lucille Faist of Gibsonburg, Betty Bennett and Diane Fowler, bo th of Port Clinton, and Joanne Bruning of Pemberville; brothers Charles Ro epke of Lincolnton, N.C, and David Roepke of Gibsonburg; and six grandchil dren and seven great-grandchildren. One grandchild is deceased.

Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, N opper-Veh Funeral Home, Gibsonburg.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Zion Lutheran Church, Gibsonburg.

Burial: N Union Cemetery, Gibsonburg.
