Will Transcript

Pages 502-03. Will of James Powell of the Parish of St. Thomas in the County of Orange, dated 15 July 1776.
My land and plantation where I now live on, and three Negroes Joe, Jeney and Hannor after my loving mother's deceas and my whold personal estate I lend to my loving wife Mary Powell during her natural life of the time she remains a widow. Afterward the land and plantation to my son James Powell.
The peac of land that goes by the name of Mathew Jones's to the dividing line to my son Luesdording Powell.
The plantation and all the land in the fork fo the two runs above Stephen Shiflet's to my son Colbe Powell.
800 acres as I had of John Mack Doner at the Tigers Valies upon Glady Creack to my four daughters equil divided between them four Mary Ann Powell, Betty Powell, and Mesineah Powell and Winey Powell.
Ruthe Breaden I have given that peace of land where she now lives on.
That land where my mother Ann Powell lives on after my mother's decease to be set up and sold to the highest bidder. The money that comes for it be for paying my debts and for clearing and to pay off all rights and to have that patten land above mentioned in my four daughters names Mary Ann Powell, Betty Powell, Mesaniah Powell, Wine [s/b Winey] Powell in theys names four.
After my wife's deceas or widowhood my hole estate to be sold at the highest bider and the money equile divided between all my children.
My wife Mary Powell and my son James Powell and my friend Andrew Shipperd and my friend John Goodall Sener executors.

If the land ant never made right to my four daughters that I have bought of John Mackdoner at the Tyger Valeys upon Glady Creek, the land where my mother lives on in Culpeper County after my mother Ann Powell deces after paying my just debts the balance to be equil divided between by four daughters Mary Ann Powell and Betty Powell and Mesaniah Powell and Wine [s/b Winey] Powell.

Executors therein named refused to act. Administration is granted to Zachary Burnley, Gent., he giving bond in the sum of £600.
