    James Monk (1717-1768)
    Judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia

    He was born in London and was a son of George Monk (b.1666) of Blatchingley, Surrey - one of the three illegitimate sons of George Monck, 1st Duke of Albemarle. He came to Boston, Massachusetts, as a merchant where in 1740 he married Ann Deering. In 1749, he moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he was a judge.
