Yes I had thought that my Mary McIntyre's father may have been a soldier. Why would he have his family with him (1816). Were there 'occupying troops'. Do you know how I can find a birth record for her (Languidoc, France) and also a record of his supposed army career? You ask if I know his christian name and the answer is no, but following the Scottish naming pattern, and I hope Mary and her husband, James Thomson did, their children ,John b 1835, James, Edward, George, Mary, William, Janet, Thomas, Joseph, Grace and Robert b 1858,whew!! That would make Mary's parents, James McIntyre and Mary, unless the couple both had father's called John. I know that James Thomson's parents were John Thomson and Janet Strachan, and all the records are from Auchtergavin. Thanks again for your reply, Helen Thomson
