A transcription of his will: In the Name of God Amen I James Maw of Thornton in the County of York Inkeeper being Sick and weak in Body but of sound mind Memory and understanding do make this my last Will and Testament in manner & form following, to witt Imprimis I give and bequeath to my Son John Maw of Scrabo the Sum of five pounds of lawful Money to be paid to him twelve months after my wife Elizabeth Maw deceases Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Ann Maw of Thornton the lawful sum of ten pounds to be paid her Twelve Months after my Wife Elizabeth Maws decease Item I give devise and bequeath to my well beloved Wife Elizabeth Maw all that my house and yard which I now dwell in with the appurtenances together with all my Household Furniture and Implements of Household and during her natural life and after her decease I give devise and bequeath the said house and yard with the Appartenances Household Furniture and Implements of Household to my Son William Maw of Thornton to him and his heirs and assigns for ever lastly all the rest residue and remainder of all my worldly Goods and Effects whatsoever I give devise and bequeath the same to my aforesaid Son William Maw whom I hereby nominate and appoint whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all former and other Will or Wills be me heretobefore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this Twenty seventh day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven --- James [X] Maw his mark * signed sealed published and declared by the above named James Maw as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us --- Thomas Stott(?) ----- James Manson _____ (?) 13 April 1787 References
