Researchers of this family list the sons of James Matson as: Thomas (1778-1833); Enoch (1787-1863); Richard (1794-1839); Peyton (btw 1784 and 1794-1819); James (no dates); and Robert (1796-1859). Son, James, is not mentioned in his father's will so it is likely that he had died before the will was written in 1825. Cannot locate son, James, in any census records by name; however, there is a male in the 1810 household of James Matson, Sr. who could be James Jr. who would have been born between 1785-1794.

She was said to be the daughter of James Matson, elder brother of old Bob Matson. Her mother was a concubine and Jane had a younger brother, Sim who lately died at Tuscola, who was as black as ink. Jane shared the condition of her mother."
