J. Matt Maitland, '13 Graduate, Dies in Veterans Hospital

Nashua -- J. Matt Maitland who formerly lived at Goodell, and was graduated from the Mason City high school in 1913, died at the Veteran's hospital in Minneapolis, Minn., Friday, March 17.

The funeral was held in Minneapolis the following Monday, and his body was placed in a vault until spring, when it is expected that a National Legion cemetery will be established. The funeral was in charge of the American Legion post at Minneapolis, of which he was a member.

He was born at Goodell, April 12, 1896, and is survived by his wife, and nine children; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Maitland; one brother, Thomas L. Maitland, Nashua; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Crooks, Nashua; Emma Gehrt, Bradgate; Adah Peterson, Storm Lake.

The V.A. cemetery locator search does not include his record. Fort Snelling National Cemetery was established in 1939, so it may be where he was interred.
