James David Lumsden, JP, of Huntingtowerfield, Perth, bleacher and dyer of Messrs. Lumsden and McKenzie, died 4may1920, aged 57 (Times). Will of James David Lumsden (d. 4may1920) of Huntingtowerfield, reg. Perth; probate 7aug1920 London, Susan Ann Ranken Fortune or Lumsden widow Robert Oswald Lumsden solicitor, Robert Oswald Lumsden farmer, Alexander Patrick Melville WS, etc. (National Probate Calendar); the farmer was Robert Oswald Lumsden (b. 1873), it is not clear who the solicitor was. In 1901 James D. Lumsden (b. 1863 Perths., master linen bleacher), wife Susan A. R. (b. 1864 Fife), children (all b. Tibbermore, with mother Susan A. R.): Effie B. (1886), Laura T. (1887), Mary F. (1892), Griget M. (1894), and Susan F. (1900), visitors (b. Fife) Charlotte M. Fortune (1864, own means), Euphemia f. Fortune (1887) were at Huntingtower Hse, Tibbermore, Perthshire (census). James David Lumsden (b. 1863) died 1920 in Tibbermore (scotlandspeople), definitely before 1923 when daughter Susan’s marriage took place (Times). Susan Ann Ranken Lumsden nee Fortune (b.1864) died 1928 at Tibbermore (scotlandspeople).

James was presumably involved in the family firm. Huntingtower Bleachfield, belonging to Huntingtower Bleach and dye works (OS ref NO 0721 2577), was southeast of Almondbank and south of the river in Tibbermore parish. James David Lumsden built a house, Huntingtowerfield, which is now Huntingtower Hotel (D. Sangster). Information from A. Lumsden. On death, 15mar1886, of Alexander Moncrieff of Perth, WS, stock was transmitted to Robert Hope Robertson, Rev Andrew Melville, John Forbes Moncrieff, CA, and James David Lumsden, bleacher (GWR shares, findmypast). On death, 20jan1911 (declared by A.P. Melville), of James Clason Harvie, Brownlee House, Carluke, landed proprieter, stock was transmitted to James David Lumsden (Huntingtowerfield, Perth), Mrs. Janet Moncrieff Melville (Barnbank, Comrie, Perthshire) (GWR shares); Jane Moncrieff Melville nee Thomson is referred to. On death, 13sep1913, of Laura Robina Thomson or Lumsden, Pitcairnfield, Perthshire, beneficiary was James David Lumsden, bleacher, Huntingtower, Perthshire (GWR shares). On death, 13apr1919, of James Watson Geddes, 93 Lesswood Pl., Aberdeen, retd Free Church minister, beneficiaries were John Forbes Moncrieff, CA, Edinburgh, and James David Lumsden, bleacher, Pitcairnfield, Perthshire, and Robert Hope Robertson (GWR shares, findmypast). James Watson Geddes married Isabella Thomson, a sister of James David Lumsden's mother and daughter of Janet Moncrieff.
