Came to Tennessee with his father's family in 1808 and purchased land on Fountain Creek. "James Kerr, Gentleman, produced in Court a license to practice law in the several courts in Tennessee and was qualified, 5-16-1826."In 1835 he was a Trustee of Pleasant Grove Academy. On the 28th day of April, 1840, he bought land in Larwrence County and moved there.
