James Kent's origins have yet to be established. His first confirmed sighting is on 23rd November 1784, when he married Elizabeth Cannon at Hitchin in Hertfordshire. She was noly sixteen when they married, and their marriage record describes James as a labourer. The marriage would be a short one; Elizabeth died just sixteen months later, aged 17, being buried at Hitchin on 28th March 1786. They do not appear to have had any children. It has yet to be established what happened to James after her death.
