    Reflect that James H. Howard enlisted December 1, 1862 at Montgomery, Alabama, as a private in Company A (Captain Hannon's Company), 53rd Regiment, Alabama Cavalry (Partisan Rangers). He appears on muster rolls through December, 1863, a receipt for clothing, dated December 2, 1864. He also received payment in the amount of $250.00 at Browns Valley, Alabama, on February 6, 1864, in compensation for his horse, which had been destroyed on October 17, 1863, by order of Col. Hannon, due to the fact that it had "been found to have a contagious disease called glanders".

Cunningham, as his security in said bond, it is therefore ordered that letters do issue to him."

Howard, his securities in said bond, Ordered that the said Charner W. be hereby appointed guardian of the said James Howard, and that letters of guardianship do issue to him as such."
