  2. ↑ It seems likely that James was born close to the parents marriage, say 1676, but no such evidence has been found. It is not uncommon for the first child be unrecorded, particularly if the proximity to marriage may have exposed the parents to sanctions, or alternately, if not admitted to the church yet. Source:Durrie, Daniel S. Genealogical History of the Holt Family in the United Statesp. 12, says this James was his father's "youngest child", but the basis for that seems to be assumption.
