In 1899 Mary Magdalene Harrington, wife of James Harrington, filed a claim near Delhi, Oklahoma on Turkey Creek. Her husband, James, a Civil War veteran, had left Austin, Texas with another man driving a herd of horses to New Orleans where the demand for them was great and the market high, since so many were lost in battle. This was the time of the big Mississippi flood and they had to cross the river; also, there were the badlands to cross where outlaws preyed on the innocent. Neither of the two men were heard from again.

The following individual is burried in the Silent Home Cemetery:

Harrington, James, Born no dates Died 11-20-1903, 80 years old.

I cannot recall who told me that James was born in England, but in both the 1910 and 1920 census, his son Jessie said his father was born in New York and his mother was born in Florida.
