Acquisition of Land

Brunswick County, VA Deeds:

This Indenture made this twenty eight Day of September 1788 BETWEEN James Gordon and Sally his wife of the State of North Carolina and County of Warren of the one part and James Fisher of the County of Brunswick the State of Virginia of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of thirty pounds . . . doth grant bargain sell and alien enfeoff and absolutely confirm unto the said James Fisher . . . a certain tract or parcel of Land in the County of Brunswick containing by Estimation two hundred and twenty two acres of Land situate and lying on the North side of Waqua Creek BEGINNING at a butter wood a corner tree on line, thence along the said Fisher's line North twenty degrees East two hundred and sixty one poles to shrub white oak, thence East to a corner on Robert Lanoirs, thence South along the said Lanoir's line down to Waqua Creek and so up the creek to the BEGINNING . . . Signed by James Gordon and Sally Gordon and witnessed by William Latimer, Robert Dunkley, and William Judd. Brunswick County Court 27th October 1788. This Indenture was proved by the oaths of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. [Deed Book 14, page 428].
This Indenture made this twenty eighth of September 1788 BETWEEN Robert Lanoir and Winifred his wife of the County of Brunswick of the one part and James Fisher of the said County of the other part . . . that the said Robert Lenoir and Winfred his wife for and in consideration of the sum of six pounds . . . doth grant bargain sell alien enfeoff and absolutely confirm unto the said James Fisher . . . a certain tract or parcel of Land in the said County containing by Estimation twenty two acres BEGINNING at James Fisher's corner white oak on Pofsom [Possom] Quarter Branch, thence on the said Fisher's line South fifty four degrees West ten poles to a small hickory corner between the said Fisher and himself, thence by his own line South seventy three degrees East to a corner hickory on Rober [sic] Lenior's line, thence North to Pofsom [Possom] Quarter Branch on the said Lenoir's line, thence up the said branch to the BEGINNING . . . Signed by Robert Lenoir and Winfred Lenoir and witnessed by William Latimer, William Judd, and Robert Dunkley. Brunswick County Court 27th October 1788. This Indenture made this twentieth Day of September 1788 BETWEEN Matthew Bishop and Martha Bishop his wife William Bishop and Rebecca his wife all of Brunswick County of the one part and Smith Hampton of the same County of the other part . . . for and in consideration of the sum of twenty eight pounds . . . doth grant bargain and sell alien enfeoff release and confirm unto the said Smith Hampton . . . one certain tract or parcel of Land situate lying and being in the County of Brunswick aforesaid containing by Estimation one hundred and eighty seven acres and bounded as follows (to wit) BEGINNING at a hickory on William Bishop's line, thence Bishop's own line to Charles Oldham's line, thence on Charles Oldham's line to Joel Lambert's line, thence on the said Lambert's line to Isham Rease line, thence on the said Reace's line to the County line, thence on the said County line to James Fisher's line, thence on the said Fisher's line to William Bishop's line, and thence on the said line to the First Station . . . Signed by Matthew Bishop, Martha Bishop (her mark), William Bishop and Rebecca Bishop. Brunswick County Court 22d September 1788. This Indenture was acknowledged by Matthew Bishop and Martha his wife and William Bishop and Rebecca his wife to be their act and deed and ordered to be recorded previous to which the said Martha and Rebecca being privately examined as the Law directs did voluntary assent thereto.
