Miss Scofield strongly suggests that this James2 Ferris is the grandfather, not the father of the James Ferris born in 1699, and that there was an intervening James3 Ferris, son of James2 who was the father of 1699 James. She further infers from the scanty documentation available that (1) the wife of James3 is completely unknown and 1699 James (James4) was the only son.

Miss Scofield notes that James3 is the one who died in 1726 and named a wife Mary in his will.
