Jim Considine was a "Tinner". Was president of the Sheet Metal Workers Union and treasurer of the Central Labor Union. Associated with the Knights of Labor and later with Samuel Gompers when the American Federation of Labor was organized. He owned his own business. He made furnaces and the spire for one of the protestant churches in DC. When Charles Considine was 15 he had to drop out of Gonzaga and go to work to support the family because Jim had suffered a heart attack and could not do that heavy work any more. That would have been around 1910. When he recuperated he went to work as a night watchman for the US Senate.
