Will of James Buchannon, executed December 19, 1832, and proved February 8, 1833. The date of death is not given in the probate records and is estimated from these dates.
"In the name of God amen. I James Buchannon of the county Newton and State of Georgia being of sound mind and disposing memory do ordain this to be last will and testament in the manner and form following. First I will that all my property be disposed of in such as my hereinafter named Executor shall think most to the benefit of my heirs and creditors and after paying all my just debts I will that the ballance be distributed in the following manner. To my beloved daughter Ann Runnels I bequeath Three Dollars. To my daughter Katharine Connell I bequeath an equal share of my estate but to be applied in such manner as my hereinafter named Executor shall think most to the benefit of the family. The reminder I will to be equally divided between my other children.
I hereby leave my beloved son Henry Buchannon Executor of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this nineteenth day of December 1832. Signed sealed and published in the presence of J. Prophet. James Buchannon [seal]

"An Invetory and appraisment of the personal property of James Buchannon decd." was returned May 18th, 1833 and recorded July 22, 1833. The total value as determined by the appraisers was $1593.01.

On July 6, 1833, Henry Buchannon, as executor of the estate, conducted a "sale of the personal property of James Buchannon senr decd" for a total of $1207.59 in receipts. Listed among those purchasing property at the sale were the following relatives of the deceased: Howel R. Buchanon, B.B. Buchannon, Robert Prophet and William Connell.

Henry Buchannon, as executor of the estate, filed "A list of insolvent notes and accounts returned in the inventory and appraisement of the personal property of James Buchannon senr decd", which totalled $ 742.00, as well as three insolvent or out of date notes and executions, not included in the inventory and appraisement, totalling $47.75. Included among these were several debts of his son in law, William Connell.

A "James Buckhanen" was included in the "List of the taxable property in Capt Potts District" and assessed the poll tax only. It is not known if this is James Buchannon.
