Will of James Brumfield, written 3 July 1795, proven 7 January 1796.
In the name of God amen I James Brumfield of Washington County and state of Kentucky being in a low state of health but of sound menory do appoint and constitute this my last will and testament revoking and disannuling all other will or will made by me before, This is to be in manner or form as followeth--
Item I give to my well beloved wife Joannah Brumfield the land where I now live with the Plantation all the tools and euteneals (note-probably means esentials or utensils) also my stock of different kinds all my hogs. All the horse and _____(cannot read the word here) except the three year old horse I give to my son Robert, one sorrel colt a year old last spring.
I give to my son Richard, also I give to my son William one sorrell colt folded last spring, and (paper torn)_______ cattle
I give to my well beloved w____(pager torn) That belongs to my son Robert one cow and earling and five to my son Richard.
Also two to my son William and one to my son James.
I also give to my well beloved wife all my sheep----
Item. I give to my well beloved wife one negro girl named Rachall.
Item my will and desire is that my stud horse should be sold at publick sale and the money that rises from that to purchas a negro for the use of my family--
Item. I give to my son Richard Brumfield two lots that I have at Springfield one of them lies between Hickmons and the Courthouse, the other lying on the watter side.
Item. I give to my two sons Robert Brumfield and William Brumfield five hundred acres foland lying in Jefferson County the convaene to be from Annanns (?) Irvin and James River.
Item. My will and desire is that at the death of my wife there should be as much of my estate sold as will be sufficient to purchase a negro girl twelve or fifteen years of age for my daughter Rachel.
Item. my will and desire is that that the death of my wife that the whole estate be equally divided among all my children except my son Robert and William and Rachell. That is to say: Richard Brumfield, Samuel Brumfield, Obediah Brumfield, James Brumfield, David Brumfield, John Brumfield.
Lastly I do appoint Richard Berry, my son Richard Brumfield and John Caldwell to be my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of July one thusand seven hunded and ninety five.

At a county court held for Washington County the 7th day of January 1796.
This will was proved by the oaths of Francis Berry and John Mcglaughlin, witnesses.________ and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of Richard Berry and John Caldwell, two of the executors therein named, who made oath and executed and acknowledged bond as the law directs a certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate thereof in due form, leave being reserved Richard Brumfield the other executor to join in the probate when he thinks fit.
