continued: his education at Drexel in the evening school
During the Great Depression, James was manager of a dye company owned by John J. Cabey. Mr. Cabey "mentored" James, groomed him for an upward climb in his company. But, before his upward mobility commenced, James suddenly quit the company without so much as an explanation to his wife, Julia Susan. No one in the family ever learned of the cause of the split, so the reason behind his action went with him to his grave.- SRC: Julia Veronica Brook Fox
OBITUARY: James E. Brook, 49, resident-manager of Wellwood Manor Apartments, 606 West Maple avenue, Merchantville, for the past two years, died yesterday at Jefferson Hospital, after a short illness. Mr. Brook was a former employee of the RCA Manufacturing Company. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Julia S. Brook; four children, Julia V., Elinora Fe and Joseph C., of the home address, and James E. Brook, a cadet at West Point Military Academy; four brothers, William, of Philadelphia; George, Edward and Thomas, all of New York state, and three sisters, Mrs. Madeline Keen, and Mrs. Agnes Nice, of Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Clara Harrison, of Michigan.
