Brennan Land Leases and Purchases Deed 320 recorded at Stratford Agency on Jan 16, 1855 North Eastope, Perth, Ontario as found by Allan Brennan: Based on microfilm records it shows property was leased by the Canada Company to James Brennan and his brother, Michael on December 1, 1845 in Toronto. The land was Concession 4, Lot 43 in North Easthope Township about one mile north of Stratford, Ontario [out Mornington St, on the right, just before the road to the airport]. James Brennan owned the east half of the property and Michael owned the west half. The original lease consisted of one hundred sixty acres owned by the Canada Company who after logging the lands divided and sold lots to help in the developement of Western Canada. In January 4, of 1855, James Brennan purchased his property for 100 pounds and his brother Patrick purchased eighty acres in February 1855 of the eastern half apparently from his brother Michael. The property belonged to the family or relatives until about 1917.

   ill need to find additional information to confirm my findings. It is possible I may never be able to verify this. However, I do know that James leased property (with an option to buy) in North Easthope Township on December 1, 1845. James purchased the property and owned it free and clear on January 16, 1855. James owned one hundred acres originally, (Concession 4, Lot 43 purchased from the Canada Company), and built a log cabin which the family first lived in. James farmed the land and grew wheat, peas, oates, and potatoes (of course). In 1851 only twenty acres were usable, fifteen acres for cultivation, five acres for pasture, and sixty acres were still wooded and needed to be cleared. James and Margaret paid L100 pounds for this property in 1855. The property was located just a couple miles outside of Stratford to the northeast on Mornington Road.

4. ↑ A public family lists James Brennan as being born in Cork, Cork, Ireland in 1812 but there is no supporting doc. It is thought the Brennans sailed from Cork but were from County Monaghan. Patrick's obit lists Monaghan as his origin.
