    Obituary From Marion Blish April 2003:

    James Blish, a Roxbury man who celebrated his 95th birthday January 13,and credited abstinence from liquor and tobacco for his longevity, diedSaturday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julius Ploutz ofRoxbury. Several days illness culminated in the death of the aged manwho had the use of most of his facilities up to the time of his death.Even after passig his 95th birthday he was able to read.

    Born in Fleischmanns in 1844, the son of Nicholas and Charlotte FergusonBlish, he was next to the youngest in a family of four. He was not theonly one in his family to reach 90. For of his brothers, Silas Blish aveteran of the Civil War, was 94 the year he died. James moved toRoxbury from Clovesvile after the death of his wife, Eliza Wait, whom hemarried in 1866. Mr. Blish conducted a Fleischmanns Farm most of hislife and in his younger years followed carpentry as an occupation. Aftermoving to Roxbury he lived there with his daughter Mrs. Ola Meeker. Yearslater he sold his home to his granddaughter. Four sons and threedaughters survive, Nicholas and John Blish of New York City, MilfredBlish of Highmount, Mrs. Julius Ploutz, Mrs. Ola E. Meeker and Mrs.Jessie Caswell of Roxbury. There are 15 grandchildren and 25 greatgrandchildren. Mr. Blish was a man of pleasant disposition and goodhumor on all occasions. In his conversation he enjoyed delving into thepast with his old acquaintances, who held a deep respect for the oldgentleman.
