Barrett [207] Barrett, James, hus. of Abigail, [died] Dec. 17, 175-. [Note: This death record is listed as coming from page 207. The immediately previous record is for Joseph Barrett who d. 17 Aug 1758, which is also on p. 207, and presumably occurred earlier on p. 207 to be listed before James. For this reason, it is thought James died on either 17 Dec 1758 or 17 Dec 1759, and so About 1759 would be a good estimate. The index to Middlesex Probate records, case 1192, James Barrett Jr. of Malden is dated 1760, which seems to agree, if it refers to the same person.]
- ↑ The death record in Malden is clearly for the husband of Abigail. There are two James Barrett's born about the same time: Person:James Barrett (25), s/o Jonathan, b. 19 Apr 1703, and Person:James Barrett (28), s/o James, b. 2 Jan 1703/04. Although the second is born in Charlestown, they both end up in Malden. NEHGR, Vol. 137, p. 239, says it is the second one, s/o James, that marries Mary Bucknum, citing a manuscript at the NEHGS library: "Barrett genealogy, descendants of James". Without knowing what this manuscript says, the justification for agreeing with it is this: Since the James who married Abigail Eustis did not name a son James, it is assumed to the be same James who married Mary Bucknam and therefore already had a son James. The James who married Abigail Eustis named children Anna and Dorcas which seem to fit the son of James somewhat better. It is also though, since Jonathan's son John went to Killingly, CT, that the James of Killingly who married Tabitha Hill is probably the son of Jonathan.
