Advisory: Several Ancestry Member Trees, "A History of Monroe County, West Virginia", by Owen F. Morton and Find-A-Grave claim that this James Alexander was a son of Matthew Alexander and an Elizabeth Marshall, but this is problematic, as the marriage date in [then] Monroe County, Virginia of 6 July 1820 is at least 20+ years before the birth of this James Alexander. It is assumed that if James was a son of Matthew Alexander that it was likely of a prior marriage. Additional research and sources are needed.
