James Leon Adkins James Leon Adkins, 81, of Sulphur died at 12:45 a.m. Tuesday,January 10, 2006 in a local hospital. Mr. Adkins was born on January 18, 1924 in Homer to LamarChristopher Columbus Adkins and Nettie Lou Woods Adkins. He wasa member of the 1939 Class A Homer High School Football StateChampionship Team. He served his country in the U. S. Army AirCorps during WWII, where he was an aerial gunner and flightengineer on the B-24 Liberator. He was a member of the 307thBomb Group of the 13th Air force participating in forty-fourmissions in the Southwest Pacific Theatre. Mr. Adkins was a 1949 graduate of Louisiana State University. Heworked as a Petroleum Engineer for Pan American (Amoco)Production Company for thirty-seven years, drilling wellsthroughout Texas, Louisiana and Wyoming. He was a member of theSWLA Rose Society and was an avid gardener. Mr. Adkins alsoenjoyed the outdoors as a hunter and fisherman. A member ofBayou Oaks Country Club, he also enjoyed playing golf. Mr. Adkins married Mary Lou Wansbrough January 18, 1952. He isalso survived by his children, Lea Mayo Langley of Atlanta, Ga.,Deborah Sue Moreno and husband John of Sulphur and Charles LamarAdkins and wife Jackie of Lake Charles; four grandchildren andthree great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, DanaCheryl Adkins Campbell. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 12,2006 in St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church under thedirection of Johnson Funeral Home. Reverend Peter Cook willofficiate. Burial will follow in Mimosa Pines Cemetery inSulphur. Visitation will be at the church on Wednesday from 2p.m. to 6 p.m. and continue on Thursday from 10 a.m. until 2p.m. Condolence to the family may be left atwww.johnsonfuneralhome.net References
