METCALF FUNERAL TOMORROW

ENTIAT RANCHER WHO DIED FRIDAY OF HEART DISEASE BURIED SUNDAY

Entiat Wash. Jan 23 – Special Correspondence – Jacob Metcalf, an Entiat Valley rancher, suddenly passed away Friday afternoon after a day of hard work at cutting ice. The cause was heart disease.

For three or four days he had been cutting ice for others on the mill pond. Friday he was cutting for himself. During the morning he was feeling all right and ate a hearty meal at noon having brought his lunch with him. An hour or so later he complained of not feeling right and said that he guessed he ate to heartily at noon. He remarked that he geussed he would not eat any supper. At 1 o’clock he climbed on a wagon load of ice with J. E. Gelb to ride home up the valley.

When they had gone about three miles Gelb noticed that Metcalf was unable to sit up and did not answer when spoken to. Being near the power station he ____ the help of Superintendent Lemmon and others. They took him into the power plant. He had no sooner been seated in a chair than he gave a gasp and passed away.

The deceased was 60 years of age. He leaves a wife and son who are said to be in destitute circumstances. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at the school house above the power plant. Interment was in the Entiat cemetery.
