This line continues to Mary Imogene Lewis b 1885, Muscatine IA, Jacob was administor of the estate of Platt Bayless with his si Phoebe Lewis Bayless (Feb 2 1778) Jacob Lewis was b 1 1/2 miles so of Basking Ridge NJ. He d at age 67 about 4 miles north of Uniontown PA on the old Sturgeon place. Jacob was a Private in the NJ Militia,, Continental Army, Wagonmaster, General Department and Forage Master, Commissary, General Department. He enlisted on March 18 1776 for one year as private in Captain Reading's Co, 3rd batallion, 1st establishment, New Jersey Continental Lines.(Strykers Jerseymaen inthe Revolutionary War p 233, 666, 852) Jacob was a farmer and worked as a miller for John Minor in his mill at Hogsett's Station. The History of Uniontown PA says " John Lewis was a son of Jacob Lewis who migrated from Basking Ridge NJ to Fayette Co in 1796 and settled at Minor's Mill, about 1 mile north of Uniontown, coming as a miller for John Minor, bringing his two sons Freeman and John" P232[heath-master.R GED.GED]
