I have noticed that there is a Leiter road in Miamisburg. Do you know who this road is named for?
Here are some families associated with Miami Township. In all probability it was named for one of these.
1. HENRY LEITER/LIGHTER This one seems like the most likely answer because his land was where Sycamore Hospital is today and Leiter Road is today. Leiter Road is southeast of the Great Miami. Head of Household in the 1850 census in Miami Township: Henry Leiter/Lighter. See also #6. He appears to be the son of that couple, which also leads me to believe this is the right answer. 1851 Montgomery County Atlas shows Henry Lighter owned a large tract of land in range 24 in Miami Township. This is southeast of the oldest part of Miamisburg (where the Great Miami River and Bear Creek join). His land was south of Sycamore Creek. 1850 United States Federal Census name: Henry Liter/[Henry Leiter] Age:44 Birth Year: abt 1806 Birthplace: Maryland Home in 1850: Miami, Montgomery, Ohio, USA Gender: Male Family Number: 460 Household Members: Name Age Henry Liter 44 Anna Liter 38 John Liter 15 Rebecca Liter 12 Edmund Liter 10 George Liter 8 William Liter 5 Lewis Cass Liter 2
