Jane Evans Best[1] suggests that the Hans Jacob Hiestand who left the Palatinate to go to Friedrichstadt on 13 Oct 1693 with his wife and child, and who married Anna Beyer 29 Apr 1694 as "a widower with child" may have been the same person as Jacob Hiestand, son of Jung Hans Hiestand and Verena Appli, born about 1649.

Richard Davis[2] suggests that these were two separate people, and that Hans Jacob Hiestand, husband of Anna Beyer, was born about 1667, and may have been the son of Hans Heinrich Hiestand, and hence the grandson of Jung Hans Hiestand and Verena Appli.
