Rites Arranged for Victim of Injury at Rig
Service for Jack Dale Laughner, 26, of 726-B Obispo Ave., who died Saturday night as the result of an accident on a Signal Hill oil rig, will be held Thursday at 10 a. m. at Mottell's Chapel, Rev. B. Wilson of Los Angeles officiating.
Laughner, who starred in football and track while attending Wilson High School from 1939 to 1941, was employed by Richfield Oil Co. as a gas engine helper. He was working on the floor of the derrick when struck by guard which fell from the derrick. He was pronounced dead Community Hospital. Laughner was born in Detroit, Mich., and resided in California 20 years, of which the last were spent in Long Beach.
After graduation from Wilson High School he attended the University of Washington. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of Arthur L. Peterson Post 27, American Legion, and of the Oilworkers' International Union, Local 128, C. I. O.
Surviving are the widow, Winifred; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Eubank; a brother, Thomas Laughner, and a sister, Mrs. Jean Iris Moll, all of Long Beach.
