    "… Captain Jabez Chapman, Esq., son of Captain John and Elizabeth (Beament) Chapman of Haddam. Jabez Chapman was an influential man in church and state affairs, was appointed captain in 1741, was a deputy to the General Court three terms. Captain Chapman died September 2,1759, in the 70th year of his age. Upon the distribution of his estate, his son, Colonel Jabez Chapman, received the real estate and ferry franchise."
